Tributes to Billy Joel and the Eagles make stops in the area

The pianist/lead singer personally selected by Billy Joel for his Broadway musical will be part of the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center’s national touring shows in the 2024-25 season.

The series launches in October with Voctave, an a cappella ensemble with more than 150 million video views on social media.

Season tickets for all five shows in the “Proudly Presenting” series are now available.

One change for audiences is that all shows in the Proudly Presenting series will begin at 7 p.m.

  • October 5: Voctave has several number one songs and albums on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify. According to the a cappella group’s website, the concert celebrating the release of their new album, “The Corner of Broadway & Main Street, Vol. 3,” will be followed by their performance in Richmond.
Voctave’s 11 singers have roots in contemporary Christian music, theater, pop, barbershop and choral music, and several have performed with the Voices of Liberty at Disney World. Voctave has sung with Grammy, Dove and American Music Award winners, including Sandi Patty and Kirstin Maldonado of Pentatonix.
  • 2 Nov: 7 bridges: The Ultimate Eagles Experience describes itself as an “astonishingly accurate” tribute to the music of the Eagles. The group uses no backing tracks or harmonizers as they recreate concerts from the band’s most productive period. 7 Bridges offers a show for all ages and families, wrapped up in a rock’n’roll concert experience.
  • December 20: Doctor Kaboom and “The Science of Santa Claus” with David Epley, who writes, performs and directs original interactive comedy. Epley believes that science and magic are the same, so Santa Claus must be the greatest scientist alive. Science comedian Doctor Kaboom fights valiantly to solve the magical mysteries of the Man in Red and learn the secrets of making reindeer fly, climbing down tight chimneys and knowing who was good or evil.
  • March 1: Uptown in New York City combines smooth rhythm and blues style with contemporary hits. The men say they offer a stage presence on par with Bruno Mars with vocals reminiscent of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.
  • May 3: Michael Cavanaugh plays music by Billy Joel and Elton John. Joel himself chose Cavanaugh to star in his Broadway musical “Movin’ Out,” in which Cavanaugh played piano and sang lead vocals. The show was nominated for a Grammy and Tony. Since touring independently, Cavanaugh has performed at events such as the PGA Tour, the Super Bowl and the Indy 500.

In addition, two daytime performances will be offered for schools and homeschooling families in Eastern Indiana and Western Ohio. “The Science of Santa” is scheduled for December 20 and “Professor Wow’s Outer Space Adventures” for February 12. Tickets are $3.

Civic Hall Associates and Richmond Community Schools, which jointly offer the series, raise funds from national, state and regional arts organizations, local individuals and businesses to keep ticket prices as low as possible.

Season tickets are $165 for adults, $160 for seniors 65 and older, and $120 for students and active military. They can be purchased by calling 765-973-3350, www.civichall.com, or at the box office between 8:30 a.m. and noon and 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. weekdays at 380 Hub Etchison Parkway, Richmond. Individual tickets will go on sale at a later date.
