TriStar Centennial Medical Center mascot celebrates first birthday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Some of us like to take our birthdays off, but not everyone can afford that luxury.

For doctors and nurses, work never stops. Sometimes they have to find time to celebrate during their shift.

A special member of the TriStar Centennial Medical Center team had to work on his birthday, but hundreds still celebrated his special day.

Minnie Pearl is the hospital’s mascot and therapy dog. She celebrated her first birthday on Thursday.

Wait, you’re probably thinking: I know the name Minnie Pearl. You know it from the Grand Ole Opry. It was Sarah Cannon’s stage name. The cancer center at TriStar Centennial is named in honor of Sarah Cannon.

That’s what makes this story so special: everyone came together to celebrate Minnie’s first birthday.

“Whenever a difficult event occurs in a unit, we get requests,” said CEO Tom Ozburn. “They say, ‘Please send Minnie.'”

Minnie’s birthday had a little bit of everything. There were snacks, balloons, a red carpet, and even paw pictures! Yes – Minnie signed autographs!

She is over 80 and almost blind. Woman from Franklin continues to crochet for those in need

“Here’s a great story that proves that everyone has something to give, regardless of age OR personal challenges. Our Austin Pollack introduces us to Ms. Sylvia Mooney. At 80 years old, she is not sitting still. Instead, she is using her skills to create compassion for others… one stitch at a time. Her crochet work goes to nonprofits to help our homeless neighbors. You might be surprised to know that she manages to do all of this while battling a serious health issue. Bravo Sylvia!”
