Trump returns to X for the first time since posting the infamous 2023 mugshot on Elon Musk’s platform

Republican presidential candidate and former President Trump returned to X on Monday for the first time since posting his infamous mugshot on Elon Musk’s platform in August 2023.

Two campaign ads were shared on Trump’s account on X Monday.

The first ad, which lasts 2 minutes and 30 seconds, uses a news anchor’s voice to recount Trump’s 2016 election victory, his 2017 inaugural speech and the success of his presidency before fast-forwarding to 2024 and the numerous charges against the former president. In a video montage, Trump can be heard saying, “I never thought something like this could happen in America.”

“The only crime I have committed is fearlessly defending our nation from those who would destroy it. The more a broken system tells you you are wrong, the more certain you should be that you must keep going,” Trump says. “They want to take away my freedom because they will never let them take away yours. They want to silence me because I will never let them silence you. They are not after me. They are after you. And I just happen to be in their way. And I am never leaving here.”

“If I am re-elected, I will completely wipe out the deep state,” he concludes. “As long as we are proud of our faith, have courage in our convictions and believe in our God, we will not fail.”

Trump followed his return to X with a written post and also shared a graphic promoting his 8 p.m. ET livestream with Musk, which is scheduled to air on X on Monday night.

“Are you better off now than when I was President?” Trump wrote in a post. “Our economy is in the dumps. Our borders are gone. We are a nation in decline. Make the American Dream AFFORDABLE again. Make America SAFE again. Make America GREAT again!”

His account later shared a second, 34-second ad with a link to his campaign website. In the video, Trump looks directly into a camera and walks toward it. He can be heard calling for a “final battle” to “destroy the deep state,” “drive the warmongers out of our government,” “drive out the globalists,” “throw out the communists, Marxists, and fascists,” “put out the sick political class that hates our country,” “put the fake news media in its place,” and “rid America of these villains once and for all.”

“Support President Trump in the fight for America,” the ad concludes.

Trump has chosen to use his own platform, TRUTH Social, for much of his 2024 campaign.

TRUMP-MUSK INTERVIEW ANGER HOLLYWOOD ELITE

Monday marks the first time Trump has been active on X since August 2023.

Trump’s mugshot was taken in a downtown Atlanta jail in connection with the case brought by now-disgraced Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis over his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Trump’s X-Account later shared a photo of the mugshot. The caption read: “Election interference, NEVER SURRENDER! DONALDJTRUMP.COM”

Previously, Trump’s account had not posted anything on X since January 8, 2021, when he announced that he would not attend Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20.

On January 8, 2021, Trump’s account on the platform formerly known as Twitter was “permanently suspended,” citing “the risk of further incitement of violence.” The January 6, 2021, riots at the U.S. Capitol had occurred two days earlier.

Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in October 2022. He restored Trump’s account in November 2022, shortly after the former president announced his candidacy to return to the White House in 2024.

Trump’s account was permanently blocked for 22 months. But even after Musk lifted the ban, Trump rarely returned.
