Excessive heat warning in effect:
HOUSTON – Tuesday is now officially the hottest day of the year, reaching 102°, beating Monday by 1 degree. The heat advisory has been extended until 10:00 p.m. Wednesday. Heat index readings will rise above 113°. Temperatures will drop a degree or two on Thursday, but it won’t be until Friday that heat indexes drop to 100°-105°.
For how much longer?
This incredibly strong high pressure system will not move until Thursday. By the weekend it will weaken and there will be a slight chance of storms. This should keep temperatures (somewhat) above 35 degrees Celsius again.
On the trail of the tropics:
No tropical activity is expected for the next seven days.
10-day forecast:
Next week we finally have hope. The high pressure system is moving away and we could get some rain early next week. That should keep afternoon highs a little more bearable, around 35 degrees, and bring back some good showers.
