Two children hospitalised after firebomb destroys Melbourne hair salon

Two children were hospitalized following a firebombing in Melbourne.

Shortly after 1:30am on Monday morning, police were called to a hair salon on Bay Street in Port Melbourne after reports that a Porsche had driven into the shop.

Both the car and the store were completely destroyed by the fire; a resident who lives above the store had to evacuate the building himself.

They were not injured in the incident, but two young children from a neighboring house were taken to hospital for evaluation for possible smoke inhalation.

The police were informed that someone had run away from the scene because the fire was considered suspicious.

A crime scene was identified.

The city was rocked by two more fires overnight, including an apartment block in Richmond.

At around 9:15 p.m., officers were called to an apartment building on Clark Street where a resident had allegedly set fire to his own apartment.

Four other units were damaged in the fire and a 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He is to be questioned after the fire.

No injuries were reported in the incident, but police report that several people were displaced from their homes.

Another fire broke out at around 1:20 a.m. in an abandoned nursing home in Patterson Lakes on Gladesville Boulevard.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and a crime scene guard has been posted on site.

An arsonist and detectives are expected to arrive at the scene on Monday morning.

Police urged anyone with information to come forward.
