Two seriously injured in early morning car crash in Paulding County

PAULDING COUNTY, Ohio (WPTA) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol Van Wert Post reports that two people were seriously injured in a car crash in Paulding County early Sunday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, officers were dispatched around 1 a.m. to a single-vehicle crash with injuries on County Road 177, west of County Road 171, in Brown Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a Polaris RZR-XP1000 driven by 24-year-old Savannah Ridgway of Convoy, Ohio, was traveling westbound on County Road 177 before traveling off the right side of the road and striking a tree.

There was a passenger in Ridgway’s vehicle at the time of the accident, identified as 23-year-old Westen Phlipot of Paulding, Ohio.

Both Ridgway and Phlipot suffered serious injuries in the crash. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ridgway and Phlipot were both flown to area hospitals.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Oakwood Fire and EMS, Mercy Health Life Flight, ProMedica Life Flight and John’s Towing assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol on scene.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, alcohol may have been a factor in the accident and seat belts were not being worn.

The crash remains under investigation.
