Finalist of the Ohio High School State Championship Tyler Cukovecki will begin his college swimming career this fall at Northern Kentucky University.

Cukovecki swam for Kings Mills High School, where he qualified for the OHSAA Division I state championship three years in a row. At the 2024 state championships, he placed 18th in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 58.55, narrowly missing the finals. He also helped his team to a 10th-place finish in the 200-meter individual medley and a 12th-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle.

Cukovecki is a versatile swimmer for the Countryside Ralph Stolle YMCA, where he primarily swims breaststroke but also performs well in butterfly, backstroke and freestyle. He has qualified for and competed in several high-level meets, including the Great Lakes Zone YMCA Championship and the YMCA Short Course Nationals.

Cukovecki competed in the OLY Winter in November, where she set a new personal best in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:11.90, as well as season bests in the 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly with times of 1:00.83 and 56.18, respectively.

  • 200 m freestyle – 1:47.19

In the 2024-2025 academic year, Northern Kentucky will field a men’s and women’s swim team for the first time, with both teams being a Division I mid-major program. Led by head coach Kevin Woodhull SmithNKU begins its debut season as part of the Horizon Conference this fall.

To qualify for the finals of last season’s Horizon League Championships, times of 56.84/2:05.44 for the 100/200 m breaststroke, 50.37 for the 100 m backstroke, 49.96 for the 100 m butterfly and 1:44.15 for the 200 m freestyle were required, putting Cukovecki just outside the cut-off times in all of his events.

Cukovecki joins fellow freshman and Ohio native in the Norse’s inaugural season in the water Connor Nortonwho also specializes in breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.
