Tyler Glasnow “isn’t getting any better”

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without Tyler Glasnow for over 11 days now and the way things stand, it will probably be a while before their star is back in the game.

Glasnow was first placed on the 15-day injured list on August 16 due to tendinitis in his right elbow. It was hoped that the right-hander would be back in a short time, but that has since been ruled out.

Glasnow’s recovery process has been slower than expected, and although he has started catching, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said it is still “slow progress.”

“Given the amount of time he’s been out, the potential strain, there’s going to be a rehab assignment, he’s going to have to get back on the mound,” Roberts added of the upcoming process. “So I just don’t know what that’s going to look like, but I’m not surprised it’s taken longer than we initially thought.”

The good news is that Glasnow hasn’t suffered any setbacks that have aggravated his elbow injury, and he hasn’t shown much sign of improvement, either.

“It’s not getting better,” Roberts said. “He’s just not throwing freely and easily yet. And when he’s not throwing freely, you have to make certain concessions and slow the process down. So that’s the way it is.”

Glasnow was scheduled to play catcher one more time before the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles, and that could prove to be a key day in his rehab. It remains uncertain whether Glasnow will be fully ready for the postseason.

“I think the coming days will tell, so I don’t think anyone can sit here today and say that,” Roberts said.
“Because if you’re playing catch today, that’s great, and he’s doing the same thing, yes. But if not, then the answer is probably different.”

The Dodgers remain hopeful that Glasnow will return before the end of the regular season, but it’s getting late fast.

Tyler Glasnow needs rehab

The plan for Glasnow was originally to forego any minor league rehab assignment, and that plan remained in place even after the latest update that Glasnow’s recovery process was slower than expected.

However, those plans have changed because of how long Glasnow will be out and will have to be out. It’s unclear when Glasnow will begin rehab, but it adds another layer to his schedule.
