Ukrainian trains to Warsaw and Chelm partially affected by extended repair work until 30 September

Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine’s state-owned railway company, announced on Monday that certain trains to and from Warsaw and Chelm will have to change at Dorohusk station in Poland as lengthy repair works are taking place on the Polish side, expected to be completed on September 30.

The original repair was announced on June 1 and was scheduled to last until August 31.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the repair work would affect four routes: No. 23 Kyiv-Chelm, No. 93/94 Kharkiv-Chelm-Kharkiv and No. 120 Chelm-Dnipro. These trains would start and end at Dorohusk station on the Polish-Ukrainian border and 45 kilometers from Chelm.

Ukrzaliznytsia explained the transfer procedures in its Telegram message, saying the transfers would not affect border control procedures.

“The two-group train No. 93/23 Kharkiv/Kiev – Dorohusk arrives at Dorohusk station at 6:45 a.m., after which the train goes through border and customs control until 7:55 a.m. The transfer train to Warsaw TLK 21112 departs from Dorohusk at 8:03 a.m.

“The double group train No. 120/94 Dorohusk – Dnipro/Kharkiv is ready for boarding at Dorohusk station until 11:00 a.m., after which the inspection work on the train will begin. The transfer train IC 12100 from Warsaw arrives in Dorohusk at 9:59 a.m. (Chelm 9:36 – 9:41 a.m.), departs at 6:45 a.m. from Warsaw Central Station and at 6:53 a.m. from Warsaw East,” the update says.

The repair does not affect the following routes: #67/68 Kyiv — Warsaw — Kyiv, #19/20 Kyiv — Chelm — Kyiv, #119 Dnipro — Chelm and #24 Chelm — Kyiv.

Buying tickets for international routes

Rail connections between Ukraine and Poland are also available via the Polish border town of Przemysl. International tickets, which can be purchased up to 20 days in advance, are available on the Ukrzaliznytsia website and mobile app.

Tickets to and from Moldova are on sale 30 days before departure.

However, from 1 August, authentication through the Ukrainian e-government portal Diia will be required to purchase some international tickets, including tickets No. 19/20 Kyiv – Chelm – Kyiv, No. 23/24 Kyiv – Chelm – Kyiv, No. 51/52 Kyiv – Przemyśl – Kyiv, No. 89/90 Kyiv – Przemyśl – Kyiv and No. 73/74 Kharkiv – Przemyśl – Kharkiv.

Similar restrictions apply to tickets to/from Warsaw and Vienna, although availability is limited for foreigners without access to Diia.

“At the same time, in order to meet the demand of foreign users who do not have the opportunity to open (an account with) Diia, the railway leaves unchanged the current system of access to international tickets for at least one flight in each direction: Odessa – Przemyśl, Kharkiv – Chelm, Dnipro – Chelm, Kyiv – Przemyśl, Chop – Vienna, Mukachevo – Košice, Lviv – Warsaw, Kyiv – Chisinau, etc.,” says the update of Ukrzaliznytsia on July 31.
