UNITED SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCES FREE SCHOOL MEALS FOR STUDENTS

The superintendent of the United School District announced Tuesday that the district has been approved for Community Eligibility Provisions, which will provide free school breakfast and lunch for all students this school year.

This means that for those who purchase a regular lunch, there will be no negative balances in school meal accounts this year, which has been a problem in the higher grades. This will also offset negative balances. Superintendent Dr. Richard Lucas said this will be a huge benefit to all families in the district.

Last year, the district received money from the state to pay for breakfast, and the district also received a grant to expand breakfast offerings to allow for multiple locations at the high school. For other financial and educational reasons, parents must continue to submit applications for free lunch.

Last night, the board also approved a general building change order, two electrical change orders, and three lighting and sound change orders for the district’s renovations. This work is expected to be completed by the start of the school year.
