Here is a recent basketball story from AP:

LAS VEGAS (AP) — He first made the U.S. Olympic team at age 19. He repeated the feat twice in his 20s. And now, a few months before his 40th birthday, he’s back for another run.

LeBron James didn’t need another Olympic experience to fill in a missing spot on his resume or add to a legacy he secured long, long ago. He chose to play this summer for one simple reason – because he wants to.

James took his first steps toward becoming the first U.S. basketball player to compete in the Olympics in three decades, stepping onto the court Saturday with the team the Americans are sending to the Paris Games later this month. Training camp opened in Las Vegas, the start of a 5 1/2-week mission whose only acceptable ending may be the U.S. winning gold for the fifth consecutive year.

“I’m still playing at a high level,” James, a three-time Olympic medalist – two gold and one bronze – said Saturday after the first practice. “I still love basketball. And the U.S. team has taken good care of me, so I felt like it was important for this summer to get out there and play with the other guys.”

The first training took place on a day that marked another first for the James family: The training in Las Vegas coincided with the Los Angeles Lakers’ first game in the California Classic Summer League – the professional debut of Bronny James, the son of the NBA’s all-time highest-scoring player.

It would have been very easy for James to take the first day off to watch his son’s debut, but that was never an option. Shortly after the buses arrived, he took the court, clapping his teammates’ hands, throwing down dunks and reconnecting with two of his former coaches – Erik Spoelstra and Tyronn Lue, both of whom won NBA titles with James on their teams.

“I was blown away by how hard he trains,” said U.S. coach Steve Kerr. “I went to Ty and Spo and asked, ‘Is this normal?’ And they said, ‘Every day, every day.’ And then I asked Spo, ‘And when you got him?’ And Spo said, ‘Every day, every practice, every set.'”

Kerr has coached James in four NBA finals. All of them featured Golden State guard Stephen Curry, who plays under Kerr for the Warriors and will make his Olympic debut this summer.

And it’s safe to say that working together was one reason why James and Curry were so happy when it came to whether or not they wanted to play in Paris.

“I’ve talked to both of them about the idea of being together after years of competing against each other with so much effort,” Kerr said. “They’re obviously a really good fit. The idea of Steph playing without the ball and LeBron pushing him in transition is pretty intriguing. Obviously Steph will play with the ball too. And LeBron has become such a good shooter, but they’re both so good in so many different areas of the game. I think they’re really excited to compete together for the first time.”

James was part of the US team that won bronze at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and at the 2006 World Championship (now the World Cup) in Japan. And since then, the Americans have been undefeated when James wears the USA logo on his chest at international games.

Since the bronze medal game in Japan 18 years ago, the U.S. has played 36 games with James in uniform — 10 at the 2007 FIBA Americas tournament, then four exhibition games before that and eight games at the 2008 Beijing Games, then five more exhibition games and eight games at the 2012 London Games. The record: 36-0. He hopes it will be 47-0 when the streak ends this summer.

“I’m here to have a good summer,” James said.

Although James did not compete in Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo, he will be competing in his fourth Olympic Games — setting the record for most games played by any U.S. man. To date, only Carmelo Anthony has competed in four Olympic Games for the U.S. men; Kevin Durant will also compete in his fourth this summer.

It’s a nice aside, but not what James is thinking about these days.

“Our only goal,” he said, “is to win a gold medal.”
