MASON, Ohio – The WTA main draw field of the Cincinnati Open suffered a setback Wednesday afternoon when world number 19 Victoria Azarenka announced her withdrawal from the event.

“Unfortunately, I have to cancel my participation in Cincinnati. I love this tournament and am extremely disappointed that I will not be able to compete. However, due to the injury I sustained in Toronto, it is in my best interest to take the time to recover. Cincy, see you next year!” Azarenka said in a statement released by the Cincinnati Open on X.

Azarenka was eliminated in the round of 16 of the National Bank Open in Toronto on Friday against Cincinnati native Peyton Stearns.

Azarenka, who was scheduled to face lucky loser Lucia Bronzetti at the P&G Grandstand on Wednesday, is one of only four players with more than 20 match wins at the Cincinnati Open, along with Simona Halep, Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic.
