Residents complain about poor water quality one day after repairs

Pune: Resident of the Taljai and Dhankawadi areas have claimed that they have contaminated water after the two days — Thursday and Friday — Supply closure.
Residents have turned to local political leaders to support the poor. Water quality and the supply was at low pressure. Nitin Kadam, a local politician and chairman of Rashtravadi Urban Cell, said the civic body had announced a water supply cut-off on Thursday, but the supply was resumed only on Friday evening.
“After the supply was restored late Friday, many residents complained that the quality was not good. The problem was immediately raised with the authorities,” he said.
“We have appealed to citizens not to panic,” he said.
Officials of the water supply department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) said that following the complaints, the supply lines were cleaned on Friday evening and the cleaning continued even on Saturday.
“The water has been subjected to basic testing. It has been found fit for consumption. The water samples will be sent to the laboratory for further testing,” said a civic official.
Kadam said the demands were submitted to the PMC’s water supply department to replace the old pipes and complete the ongoing pipeline work in the area. Local residents alleged that the PMC had laid pipelines in some areas but these were not connected to the main distribution lines.
Meanwhile, residents of Taljai and surrounding areas said that water supply has always been irregular.
“Many hill districts do not get adequate water supply. There is also no fixed delivery schedule. The civic body needs to follow a proper delivery schedule to alleviate our distress,” Vijay Shinde, a local resident, told TOI.
After the water cut on Thursday, water supply was expected to be restored on Friday morning, but many areas, including Shivajinagar, Kharadi and Vadgaon Budruk, experienced delayed restoration.
