Water Supply: Extensive repair work to affect water supply in Pune tomorrow | News from Pune

Extensive repair work will affect the water supply tomorrow

Pune: On Thursday, water taps will remain dry in most parts of the city as the Citizenship‘S Water supply Department has planned repair and Maintenance work at all major supply units, pumping stations and elevated tanks.
However, water supply from Bhama Askhed unit to eastern areas like Wadgaonsheri, Nagar Road and Chandannagar will continue without interruption as no repairs are planned there.
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) authorities said the supply will be restored in a phased manner from Friday morning, depending on the completion of the work. The units where repairs are planned include Khadakwasla well, Parvati water works, Wadgaon water works, Cantonment water works and Holkar water works. Water will not be supplied from these units to the elevated tanks at Chatushrungi, SNDT and Warje and further to the distribution networks. The teams deployed for the repairs and maintenance work will check the functionality of the power supply and water pumps and carry out the repairs accordingly.
An official from the PMC’s water supply department said the repairs were being carried out to avoid disruption during the upcoming festive season. “The administration generally does not plan for all-day repairs during the festive season to avoid inconvenience,” he said.
Meanwhile, citizen activist Sandip Kotwal demanded that the civic body publish details of the repairs it is carrying out on water supply facilities during the closures.
“It is important to know the details because even after the repairs, residents of many parts of the city continue to suffer from water shortages and irregular supplies. Sudden power outages at pumping stations and damage to pipelines and distribution lines are the most common complaints,” Kotwal said.
