Wayne County man wins million in state lottery

A Wayne County man won $1 million this summer playing the Michigan Lottery’s Gold Multiplier instant game, state officials said.

The 53-year-old man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his lucky ticket at a Tel-Wick Amoco Service Center on Telegraph Road in Taylor, lottery officials said in a news release Wednesday.

He had to scratch the ticket up to the winning amount before he saw he had won a prize, the statement said. When the man saw his big win, he immediately called his son and fiancée, he said.

“When I saw a $1 million prize, my jaw dropped!” the man said in the press release. “Winning is life changing and one of the best things that has ever happened to me! I’ve been nervous for days and it still doesn’t seem real.”

The man recently claimed his winnings at lottery headquarters as a one-time lump sum payment of $693,000. He plans to use the winnings to help his family, officials said.

The winner joins the ranks of others in the state who have earned seven-figure sums.

Another Michigan resident recently won $4 million in the lottery in Jackson.

Officials also announced that an Oakland County woman cashed in a winning ticket worth $1 million this month, less than a week after an Oakland County man won $2 million on a Michigan Lottery Jackson instant play ticket.
