The man many consider to be the greatest hockey player in history will now feed hungry travelers in Edmonton.
The Great One opens the newest restaurant at Edmonton International Airport: Wayne Gretzky’s Wine and Whiskey.
The establishment is advertised as a family-friendly restaurant with liquor cabinets full of wine and whiskey from Wayne Gretzky Estates Wines.
Founded in 2007, Gretzky Estates offers wine from Ontario, BC and the USA. The company also produces a line of whiskey.
Although the restaurant is quite a distance from the new Rogers Arena and the Edmonton Coliseum – the stadium where Gretzky set countless records – Gretzky memorabilia is on display in the dining room.
The restaurant is a partnership with HMS Host, the world’s largest airport food and beverage provider.
Heather Hamilton, director of public affairs at Edmonton International Airport, said the restaurant is a little ahead of schedule and will open on Friday, but there is no confirmed date for the grand opening yet.
“I suspect all of our passengers have exactly 99 identical ideas about what they would most like to see at the grand opening,” she wrote in an email to CBC.
“We’re from Edmonton, we understand!”
