Wayne Rooney believes Guardiola would be an excellent choice as England coach

Former England striker Wayne Rooney has expressed his desire to see Josep Guardiola take charge of the national team. He believes England should prioritize hiring the best coaches and Guardiola would be an excellent choice, Goal reports.

To be honest, I would like Pep. I think England needs to strive for the best coaches and Pep would be great; the way he makes his teams play. But I think Lee Carsley deserves his chance. I played with Lee at Everton, we were both younger and he is a very good person and coach.

It was previously officially announced that England were looking for a new head coach, with Lee Carsley being appointed as interim coach on 9 August.

Josep Guardiola has been the head coach of Manchester City since 2016. Under his leadership, the team has won four consecutive Premier League titles, breaking the domestic championship record. The Citizens have also won international tournaments, including the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
