Wayne Township Fire Department holds funeral for Rodrick Shane Lambert

The Wayne Township Fire Department is hosting a funeral for firefighter Rodrick Shane Lambert, who passed away on August 10, 2024.

The department announced his death in the line of duty after he suffered severe injuries and paralysis when the fire truck he was riding in rolled over on May 24, 1995. Firefighter Ronald Deer was also killed in the accident.

“For the past 30 years, Rod was a fixture at Wayne Township fire stations. He would often stop by and bring his incredible energy and smile to inspire others to never give up on life’s challenges,” the Wayne Township Fire Department said in a statement.

The department will hold a service for Lambert on Tuesday at Olivet Missionary Baptist Church, 4141 N. High School Road.

Visits are possible from 10 a.m., the service begins at noon.

Lambert will be buried with fire department honors at the Hero’s of Public Safety Memorial at Crown Hill Cemetery.

The funeral procession is expected to begin between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m. It will depart from the Olivet Missionary Baptist Church and travel east along 38th Street to Boulevard Place. From there, it will travel south on Boulevard Place to the entrance of Crown Hill Cemetery.

The public is invited to line the route to pay their final respects to Lambert.
