We need “better people” in politics

Host of NewsNation Chris Cuomo Vice President beat Kamala Harris Friday night, just hours after she made a faux pas while presenting her economic plan to voters in North Carolina.

Harris blamed inflation in part on corporate greed and accused major food suppliers of excessive prices. At one point in her speech, Harris made a faux pas when she accused big companies of “price gouging.”

“I will work to pass the first federal ban on food price gouging,” the vice president said in her speech, in which she also proposed expanded tax credits and down payment assistance for first-time home buyers.

On his show Friday, Cuomo aired a clip of the faux pas and made a comment about it before saying American voters need more “talent” in candidates running for political office. Cuomo said:

So she made a mistake on price gouging versus price-gouging. We noticed that. Second, it’s popular to attack corporations. It’s popular to do it because of inflation. Sixty percent of us believe corporations are responsible. The question is, what do we do, right? Blame instead of change. So Harris says she’s targeting price-gouging. I don’t really care about price-gouging versus price-gouging. I don’t care, OK? You have to take the talent you can find. We don’t have great talent in our politics right now. We have to wait until better people want to get involved in this process that’s so toxic. But that’s who we have.

In her remarks in North Carolina on Friday, Harris sparked controversy by suggesting that corporate greed played a role in record-high food prices that have put pressure on Americans at grocery stores.

The Washington Post The editorial board concluded from Harris’ remarks as follows: “Vice President Kamala Harris’ speech on Friday was an opportunity to explain to voters in concrete terms how a Harris presidency would handle an economy that many say is not working well for them. Unfortunately, she squandered the opportunity with populist tricks rather than putting forward a substantive plan.
