What André 3000 thinks about the dispute between Drake and Kendrick Lamar

André 3000 has just voiced his opinion on the rap battle that resulted from the bitter feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, and his reaction may be as typical as it is a little shock.

During his last interview with Cracked MagazineThree Stacks waded into the rap feud that captivated fans for most of the summer. Revealing his reaction to the confrontation between Drizzy and K. Dot, André seemed to express his disdain for the high-level feud because he felt it became much more than just battle rapping.

“At some point I became a little sad,” said André. “In the early rap battles, children rapped against each other in the park. But today it’s not just people who rap.”

He continued, pointing out his belief that there is much more at stake in such disputes in rap than just the reputation of an artist.

“You have people with 100 employees,” he said. “You have livelihoods, empires, companies, businesses – everything can be at stake. If you have nothing to lose, then of course you can try. But if I’ve already done it, I’m not sure if it’s even worth it anymore.”

Elsewhere in the interview, André 3000 revealed his reaction to Kendrick mentioning him by name in his verse about Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” collaboration. Considering the record is widely considered to be the incendiary device that sparked the controversy, the Outkast rap legend responded to it much more kindly than his general statement about the rap battle that erupted following the track’s release.

“As a 49-year-old rapper, you just love getting a shoutout (hahaha),” he said. “But as a rapper, I noticed that I was walking around with this stick. So that was a reference for me too and I tried to find a way to use it. But he used it, so I had to say, ‘Yeah, he got it.'”
