Autumn is my favourite time of year for hair trends and September in particular seems to be a great time for a style reset – does anyone else know that back-to-school feeling? As we dig out the knitwear and boots, many of us are also considering a hair refresh, be it a haircut or a new hair colour. And one haircut that is cementing its status as the main haircut trend for autumn is the laser cut bob, which is fast becoming a favourite with both celebrities and the fashion world.

Influenced by Tom Smith, hairdresser and international artist in residence with Billi Curriehe expects the laser-cut bob to be a major short hair trend for fall. So what exactly is it? “A perfectly measured, sharp and precise bob in a length that sits between the top of the shoulder and the angle of the jaw,” he says, which “works best with a center parting and
combined with bangs if desired.” Imagine if your hairdresser cut your hair with a high-tech laser beam – this is super precise, clean and blunt at the ends, and your hairdresser would have to use a precise cutting technique to achieve the look.
The best thing about the laser cut bob (apart from the fact that it looks incredibly chic)? It suits everyone. “The length can be tailored to many face shapes, but for a softer result, opt for a chin-length or longer, or for a bolder alternative, a length above the chin,” says Blacksmith. “Best styled straight or with minimal texture, this is a great option for those with fine hair as the cut makes the hair appear thicker and denser. It’s also very easy to achieve for those with naturally straight or fine hair,” he says.
