After months of speculation, Hollywood singer and actress Jennifer Lopez (55) has finally filed for divorce from her husband, fellow actor Ben Affleck (52). The couple were happily married for over two years.
The burning question on everyone’s mind: Why did JLo decide to end things with Affleck?
Accordingly PEOPLESources familiar with the situation say Lopez is “tired of waiting” and is now ready to “move on.”
Lopez “really tried hard to make it work”
A source told the publication that Lopez “has really been trying to make things work and is heartbroken.”
The source added: “The children are the top priority, as they always have been.”
For those who don’t know, Lopez has 16-year-old twins Emme and Max, while Affleck is the father of Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and 12-year-old Samuel from his previous marriage to actress Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018.
Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court
Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday (local time).
The separation date had been set for April 26, 2024, just days before rumors of marital disputes emerged.
The couple had been married since July 17, 2022, when they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas. A second ceremony took place on August 20, 2022, in Georgia.
Divorce documents do not reflect a marriage agreement
The divorce documents reportedly do not include a prenuptial agreement. Lopez has waived spousal support and asked that Affleck not be awarded spousal support.
As part of the agreement, the couple’s $60 million mansion must be sold. Sources say communication between the two has deteriorated and negotiations have reached an impasse.
The couple has now put their houses up for sale. Affleck has also bought a bachelor pad in Los Angeles.
Affleck “has shown no indication that he wants to continue the marriage”
An insider close to Lopez said she was “very disappointed and sad, but Ben has given her no indication that he wants to continue the marriage.”
Lopez and Affleck met for the first time on the set of the film Gigli in 2001. They became engaged in 2002, but postponed their wedding in September 2003 and eventually separated in January 2004.
Both entered into further marriages – Lopez in 2004 to the singer Marc Anthony and Affleck to Garner.
However, in 2021 they got back together.
