What time does Obama speak at the DNC? Timing, how to watch – NBC Chicago

Editor’s Note: NBC Chicago offers a live feed of the evening and primetime speeches every day Monday through Thursday in the player above and on the 24/7 streaming channel NBC 5 Chicago News..

Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama will headline the second day of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Tuesday night.

Both Obamas will take the stage on the same evening but will deliver separate speeches – one after the other.

According to a schedule released by organizers on Tuesday, Michelle Obama is scheduled to speak shortly before 10 p.m., followed by Barack Obama at around 10 p.m.

However, this time estimate is based on other elements of the evening remaining on schedule.

Organizers noted that there may be schedule changes on Tuesday after Monday’s event underwent “real-time adjustments” and some speeches and appearances had to be canceled to accommodate Biden’s highly anticipated speech following on-site delays.

The evening’s “main program” is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a shift from the planned start time of 6 p.m. Organizers said the change was made to “ensure we stay on schedule.”

The Obamas have spoken at the last four Democratic National Conventions; the former president also delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston.

Their speeches come a day after the unofficial farewell to Biden, who served as his vice president for eight years. Biden will not be in the hall to hear his former running mate’s speech, as he left Chicago on Monday evening after his own speech.

According to convention organizers, the theme of Tuesday’s events is “A Bold Vision for America’s Future,” a clear shift toward a new generation of Democrats and their leadership. After a Monday night that hinted at Harris’ possibilities but also honored Biden’s legacy and decades of accomplishments, convention organizers now appear ready to move on to the next leg of their journey.

In unveiling their plans for the week, convention organizers on Tuesday night described it as a way to contrast Harris’ forward-looking strategy with Trump’s less positive view of America’s future.

According to the Harris campaign, Michelle Obama is expected to make the case for why Harris’ experience and values make her a good fit for the office of president. Her husband, Harris campaign officials said, will focus on what Democrats need to do to defeat Trump in the general election.
