It’s a sweet day, folks! National Soft Serve Ice Cream Day is celebrated on Monday, August 19th, and it’s the perfect day to grab a slice at your favorite ice cream shop.
For those who don’t know, soft serve ice cream is similar to regular ice cream, but it is softer and less dense because more air gets into it during the freezing process.
Most soft serve restaurants in the Louisville area are open through the end of October, so be sure to stop by and grab a treat in a cone or cup. Here’s a look at seven places in Louisville and Southern Indiana where you can get soft serve ice cream.

WHAT: This popular Louisville eatery is known for its soft serve ice cream and chili dogs. The takeout window on Eastern Parkway serves soft serve ice cream in cones or cups, as well as ice cream cones. Choose from 13 sundaes, including a sugar-free sundae. Shakes come in 20 flavors. Floats come in nine flavors, including a vegan vanilla and a sugar-free butter pecan. Flurries come in eight flavors.

WHAT: Dairy Queen offers soft serve ice cream in a variety of ways. Try a vanilla ice cream cone or a chocolate covered cone. Sundaes come in hot fudge, strawberry, chocolate and caramel flavors. Royal treats include Heath Caramel Brownie Cupfection, Banana Split, Brownie and Oreo Cupfection and Peanut Buster Parfait. The popular Blizzard offers 11 flavors to choose from, including the new Ultimate Cookie Blizzard. WHAT: This southern Indiana ice cream shop has been serving soft serve ice cream since 1952. Polly’s Freeze serves soft serve cones, banana splits, sundaes, floats and everything in between. They also have a rotating selection of sorbet and gelato flavors.
