Where Ohio residents live indicates their life expectancy.

Life expectancy varies by zip code, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Across Ohio, life expectancy ranges from 60 years in a Columbus neighborhood to just over 89 years in a northeast Ohio city.

In general, the life expectancy of Ohio residents is already not as high as that of people in other states.

At 76.9 years, Ohio’s average life expectancy ranked 42nd among the 50 states in 2019. In 2020, life expectancy in Ohio continued to decline to 75.3 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). For comparison, the life expectancy of Americans born in 2020 was 77.3 years, the lowest life expectancy in the country since 2003, according to the CDC.

The Dispatch analyzed CDC data to find the communities with the highest and worst life expectancies in the state and Franklin County. Cities and neighborhoods are listed below.

According to the CDC, the following neighborhoods and cities have the lowest life expectancy in Ohio.

  1. West side of Columbus, Ohio: 60 years.
  2. Old North neighborhood of Dayton, Ohio: 61.1 years.
  3. Stuebenville, Ohio: 61.6 years.
  4. Downtown and Lagrange district of Toledo: 62.5 years
  5. Warren, Ohio: 63.2 years.

CDC data shows that the following Ohio cities have the highest life expectancies in the state.

  1. Stow, Ohio: 89.2 years.
  2. Shaker Heights, Ohio: 88.6 years.
  3. Blue Ash, Ohio: 88.2 years.
  4. Dublin, Ohio: 87.6 years.
  5. Mason, Ohio: 87.4 years.

Which neighborhoods in Columbus have the lowest life expectancy?

According to the CDC, the following neighborhoods in Columbus and Franklin County have the lowest life expectancy.
