Wildlife Division Shooting Ranges, Free Practice Day on August 17

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three Ohio shooting ranges will offer a Free Range Day on August 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., hosted in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife and the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

  • On August 17, you can visit three areas of the Division of Wildlife from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to a press release from the ODNR, the following Division of Wildlife shooting ranges are available to you:

  • Deer Creek Wildlife Area at the corner of State Route 207 and Cook Yankeetown Road Northeast in Mount Sterling
  • Delaware Wildlife Area at 1110 State Route 229 in Ashley
  • Spring Valley Wildlife Area at 3570 Houston Road in Waynesville

According to the press release, participants will receive “hands-on experience” in handling firearms from certified instructors. Equipment, ammunition, and eye and hearing protection will also be provided.

They also note that the normally required shooting permit will be waived on August 17 at all Division of Wildlife Class A, B and C shooting ranges. Normally, these permits cost $5 per day or $24 per year.

“Free Range Day is offered in conjunction with National Shooting Sports Month by the National Shooting Sports Foundation Inc.,” the release states. “The Division of Wildlife’s public shooting ranges provide comfortable and safe places to hone skills with rifles, shotguns, handguns and archery equipment.
