Wisconsin deserves more in the US Senate than the bigoted Californian banker Eric Hovde

WASHINGTON — Today, anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-abortion U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde won the Wisconsin Republican primary. In stark contrast to U.S. Senator and equal rights champion Tammy Baldwin, Hovde’s agenda is consistent with some of the most dangerous policies of the Trump-Vance Project 2025—an agenda that does not support Wisconsin businesses, workers, or families:

  • Hovde is a big advocate of telling women what to do with their own bodies. He wanted Roe v. Wade overturned the ruling, saying he was “totally against abortion.” No wonder he is supported by the far-right group Wisconsin Right to Life.

  • Hovde expressed his ignorance and bigotry by saying that being transgender is “insane” and he opposes allowing transgender students to play sports alongside their classmates.

  • In 2018, Hovde endorsed Leah Vukmir for the same Senate seat. Vukmir supported a proposed constitutional amendment to eliminate marriage equality and said she would not change her position.

  • Hovde has no problem showing how out of touch he is with the people of Wisconsin. Despite owning a $7 million mansion in Laguna Beach, California, Hovde claims that low-income people not getting food stamps is just “another sad story” (Associated Press, 21.06.12).

Jared Todd, spokesperson for the HRC Equality Votes PACmade the following statement:

“Eric Hovde is an arrogant opportunist who will grab power and influence wherever he can find it for his own ego. He has shown time and time again that he is completely out of touch with Wisconsin voters. Attacking transgender people, stripping Wisconsin residents of their choices regarding reproductive health care, and doing nothing to make Wisconsin residents better off is not a winning program. Wisconsin residents, including the state’s one million Equality Voters, will reject Hovde’s bigoted elitism at the ballot box and re-elect Tammy Baldwin, a champion for Wisconsin families who puts their needs first.”

From now through November, HRC Equality Votes PAC will work to mobilize 75 million Equality voters, including one million Equality voters in Wisconsin, by communicating what is at stake for the LGBTQ+ community and the threats to our rights and freedoms posed by MAGA politicians. Equality voters are younger, more ethnically diverse, and more female than the general electorate. Read more about the 75 million Equality voters here.
