Workers repair gas leak in Jackson

JACKSON, Mississippi (WLBT) – Atmos Energy technicians repair a gas leak along Earle Street a day after a natural gas line was damaged.

Bobby Morgan, vice president of public affairs for Atmos’ Mississippi division, said the line was cut Thursday evening by a construction crew working near the 550 block.

He said the crew did work that had nothing to do with Atmos.

When the damage occurred, a precautionary evacuation was ordered.

That issue has now been resolved and Atmos technicians are on site to make repairs, Morgan said.

The leak caused about 12 customers to lose service. Atmos officials said service should be restored to all customers by Saturday morning.

Morgan, meanwhile, said there may be traffic delays during repairs and some drivers should take alternate routes.

Anyone who nicks, scratches or damages a natural gas line is urged to call 911 and then report the incident to Atmos at (866) 322-8667 so the line can be inspected.
