More helping hands for the family of the deadly Belle Glade disaster that left nine people dead and only one surviving. The family is now receiving support from the U.S. State Department to bring the deceased home to their families.
On a street that looks like any other, a brand new railing tells the grim story of the deaths of nine family members who had traveled from out of state to celebrate a birthday.
Now the family is trying to bring the bodies home for burial and is planning nine funerals. They have used GoFundMe and have already exceeded their goal of $100,000. The family posted their gratitude, saying in part:
“The support we have received is overwhelming, but it is beautiful to see how we as people come together to help others in need. I ask that you please spread the word and keep my family in your prayers. I want to assure you that any form of support is greatly appreciated.”
But now they are getting more help.
“There are federal agencies like the U.S. State Department that can help,” said Senator Richard Blumenthal.
Senator Blumenthal of Connecticut, along with State Senator Herron Gaston, are leading the effort to bring them home.
“This is a huge logistical challenge because we’re talking about nine deceased people,” Gaston said. “We have to work with the family to get the bodies from Florida to Connecticut and then to their final resting place. Some of these transfers could take place in the United States, others on the island of Jamaica.”
And while the NTSB investigates the crash, the family can only work on bringing their family back home.
