Wright City hosts free sterilization clinic

By Jack Underwood, Editor

On August 23, a free mobile clinic was held in Wright City, courtesy of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, where 11 cats and 13 dogs were spayed and neutered. The event was sponsored and paid for by Lynda and Bob Baker, among others.

“Sponsors come in like me and my husband, … And we only offer it to low-income families who can’t afford it, and it also includes vaccines and microchips,” Lynda said.

Stray Rescue of St. Louis offers its mobile clinic to sponsors for $2,500 and has the capacity to neuter 24 animals during the one-day events.

“It’s very simple, Stray Rescue takes care of everything,” Lynda said. “They handle the registrations and shipping to and from everyone. All I do is write a check.”

In addition to the Bakers, other event sponsors included Christie Pink, Rodney and Trish Harrison, Stacy and Leonard Zeid, Laura and Brad Benning, Nancy and John Benz, Dan and Pat Reuter, Mary and John Simon, Cindi and Larry Tilly, and Mike and Kim Lyles.

The cost is about $100 per animal, which Lynda says is significantly cheaper than the cost of the procedure at the vet. She felt it was important to offer the service to those who can’t afford it to help local shelters that are already overwhelmed with animals.

“We are currently in a crisis in this country. There are more animals than shelters or homes,” Lynda said.

While Stray Rescue St. Louis has booked its mobile clinic through 2024, sponsorships are being accepted through 2025. The first opening will be in April of next year. Anyone interested in sponsoring a clinic can contact Chief Development Officer Aimee Dearsley at [email protected].
