Yankees call up Jasson Dominguez for the first time this season

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — In an event that put youth at the center, the Yankees added some excitement to the Little League Classic with a special guest.

Jasson Dominguez was named as the 27th man for Sunday’s exhibition game against the Tigers at Bowman Field.

Teams can add an extra player to their roster for special games during the season, and that happened Sunday, allowing Dominguez to play for the Yankees for the first time this year.

It’s possible that switch-hitter Dominguez could even face off directly against Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal if they opt to have left-handed outfielders Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham on the bench.

Dominguez, 21, made waves last September when he hit four home runs in eight games, but then tore his ACL and had to undergo Tommy John surgery, delaying his 2024 season.

The Yankees sent him to Triple-A after his rehab, where he suffered an oblique abdominal muscle strain due to Giancarlo Stanton’s injury, just before he would have had a chance in the major leagues.

Overall, Dominguez had a batting average of .280 with an OPS of .766 in 26 games at Triple-A.
