While teaching high school in Mankato, Minnesota, Tim Walz lived across the street from us.
He was an introduction to political science teacher for one son and an assistant track and field coach for the other son. He maintained this residence throughout his six terms as Congressman for MN District 1. We saw him put containers at the curb on garbage collection night. We welcomed him and his children to our front steps on Halloween. He came to our New Year’s party where we all ate black-eyed peas for good luck.
He moved to St. Paul when he was elected governor in 2018. He has now been selected as Kamala Harris’ running mate for vice president.
From my own experience, I can say that you will not find a more authentic, energetic and cheerful campaigner than Tim. What he said in Philadelphia on August 6th about the “politics of joy” that he and Harris are bringing to the campaign is no exaggeration. He is modeled on Paul Wellstone, and you can’t get better than that.
