Ralph Lauren should have left these clothes in the pit lane.
The clothing company was criticized on Sunday for the racing aesthetic of its outfits for the US team’s closing ceremony at the Paris Olympics.
Commenters on social media joked that the uniforms looked like something out of NASCAR or Will Ferrell’s “Trick or Treat,” while others joked that they were hideous valet outfits.
The two people who may have suffered the most skid marks, however, are flag bearers Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead, who were the first to enter the Stade de France for the Americans and were the focus of most of the jokes about the country’s uniforms at the closing ceremony.
“Katie Ledecky looks like she just won the Indy 500,” joked someone on X, formerly Twitter.
Ouch.

Is there a reason the US team is channeling NASCAR in their outfits? Wait for them to break out some Budweiser and Big Macs #ClosingCeremony

Everyone’s #ClosingCeremony The outfits are so clean and then the USA wears… something straight out of the Ricky Bobby collection.

Why can’t U.S. athletes wear outfits that don’t look like school uniforms or NASCAR drivers during the opening/closing ceremonies?
