Drake and Latto’s new collaboration shows his long-standing support for women in music

Drake and Latto has generated new excitement and is his latest co-sign with a popular artist.

On Tuesday, Drake opened his archives and released 100 GB of previously unreleased footage as well as three new songs. One of the songs, “Housekeeping Knows,” features Latto. The song Drake appears to take a melodic approach that samples the Miami classic Riddin the Stick. Latto handles rapping duties in her signature Southern style and can be seen riding a horse and rapping in a stable in a clip shared online. It’s unclear if the song will appear on her upcoming album. “Sweetened honey iced tea.”

This exciting single comes months after the Toronto with Sexy Red for their hit, “U My Everything” in May. Drake had jumped on the sexy bandwagon months earlier after featuring her on his album October 2023 Album, “For all dogs.” The couple, together with SZAhave come together for the club hit “Rich Baby Daddy”, an outstanding member of the project.

While Drake has long collaborated with female artists in the R&B field, such as Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Jorja Smith and Alicia Keysto name a few, his recent collaboration with female rappers may come as a surprise to some. In the past, Drake has mostly championed Young Money signees Nicki Minaj. In recent years, however, he seems to have become more open to attracting more of his female rap peers.

These co-signs, especially with regard to upcoming acts, are known on social media as “Drake’s stimulus package.” For young artists, they often lead to significant career advancements. For example, he supports Summer Walker on her single, “Girl Needs Love” Remixhelped the singer become a superstar. His support also goes beyond the musical collaboration, with OVO Founder uses his platforms to promote these artists on social media.

It remains to be seen which other women in hip-hop will collaborate with Drake, although his many previous collaborations with women as main artists prove that he is a huge supporter of women in all areas of music, whether they are new or already established.
