To celebrate its 40th anniversary, a VERY POPULAR Glasgow restaurant is treating customers to a trip down memory lane with an original menu and affordable ‘retro’ prices.

The restaurant will be open every Wednesday for the foreseeable future and will serve a touch of nostalgia – and at dirt-cheap prices.

The Charing Cross restaurant is serving rib-eye steaks for just £7.50 and New York burgers for just £4.80, saving customers a fortune and celebrating its special milestone in style.

The piano bar and restaurant, which is popular with guests and celebrities alike, opened its doors for the first time on August 7, 1984.

And 40 years later, the Glasgow favourite is struggling to keep up with the times, with the owner saying it could be their “last year in business”.

Just a stone’s throw from Charing Cross Station, regulars at the bar and grill include Deacon BlueRicky Ross of Two Doors Down and Elaine C. Smith of Two Doors Down.

Owner Billy McAneney, 74, told the Daily Record: “This could be our last year in business as the whole area is slowly but surely being demolished and I know there are big plans for the next 10 years to demolish the entire building.

“I am a little surprised that the building is being listed as a historic monument, as it is one of the last remaining buildings built using the Bison frame construction method.

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, so we’re not sure how long we can continue.

“If it continues like this, that’s fine, but not many places last 40 years.

“We’re going out with a bang.”

He added: “Besides people like Ricky Ross and Elaine C Smith, we have people who have been with us from day one and, unfortunately, others who are no longer with us.”

Some courses on the menu cost just £2, but McAneney says there’s more in store for enthusiastic customers.

He said: “The menu is just one of several Events we have positioned ourselves.

“I thought that since this could be our last year, it would be appropriate to do it in our birthday year. That was the main reason Drive Force.

“We want people to know that the Baby Grand is still there and still looks good.”
